I had some time last night while waiting for my finals for the semester to render. So I finished up Gambit to a place where I'm happy with the progress. I'm still working on technique, but I'll get there some day.

New Animation!


Just a quick run cycle I've been working on. It's a jog and not a straight-out run. It's a bit more relaxed. Tried to use more nuance in the action so that you could feel it a little more. Again, sorry about the load-time, but it's free.

BTW/ Thanks to Jason Schleifer for the nice little post about my site. I hear he's becoming a bit of a tablet nut. Check out his site, lots of good stuff and the occassional cartoon of a dog farting.

Nifty idea!

Now I may be a bit slow at coming to this realization, but here goes... I've always struggled with drawing in perspective. Given the right tools (triangles,t-squares and tylenol) and enough time, I could hammer it out, but I usually wound up skipping that part entirely and going for the characters before the backgrounds were done. I got some great poses in the process, but the whole perspective thing is why I quit architectural drafting after a year.

Anyway, what's the point? Well I'm storyboarding for my short right now (side note: I think I'm gonna do it afterall for school, but always keep working on animation tests for my demo.) and I started using a fun little technique. I just did some quick renders in Maya to get the shots I wanted and then brought them into a drawing application. (Photoshop or Sketchbook Pro) This way I still get to draw, but at the same time, I'm setting up the cameras for my layout.


This is just a quick example but as you can see, I can work really quickly without having to worry about perspective. This gives me more time to think about story-telling, plus I guess I just get really impressed when a tool or workflow actually helps.
